National Maritime Day is a United States holiday created to recognize the maritime industry. It is a day of national pride, observed on May 22, the date in 1819, when the American steamship Savannah set sail from Savannah, Georgia, on the first transoceanic voyage under steam power. The Propeller Club organizes a Social Networking Event, including reading the Mayor's Proclamation and Honoring those lost at sea by presenting a wreath to the waters.
